Sushi and it’s popularity in Vestal, NY
Sushi has quickly become one of the most popular international dishes over the last century or so. Even the least-adventurous diners among us have at least tried a California roll. But did you know that it originated in Southeast Asia as a way to preserve fish in vinegared rice? This centuries-old Japanese staple has become a modern classic, and there are now hundreds of different rolls you can try – with new ones being created every day. Whether you like it raw, sashimi-style or cooked, eating raw fish is no longer frowned upon in the US – and just about everyone has tried it at some point. With fresh, simple ingredients, this Japanese classic offers an explosion of flavor in just one bite that you don’t often experience in other cuisines.
Enjoy authentic sushi in Vestal, NY
The first sushi bar opened up in New York City in 1963. Kampai Japanese Steakhouse, located upstate in Vestal, NY was not far behind the trend. The restaurant opened in 1975 and they started serving sushi in 1985. At that point in time, it was difficult to find a sushi bar anywhere outside of the city. Kampai Japanese Steakhouse is now known for offering the most authentic sushi and sashimi in the Southern Tier.
If you love fresh, raw fish and authentic Japanese food, then Kampai Japanese Steakhouse is the place for you. This unassuming little restaurant in the small town of Vestal gives some of the biggest names in the industry a run for their money. They offer some of the freshest and most flavorful sushi that you will ever have the pleasure of eating. Each piece is made to order, using the freshest fish and the highest quality ingredients. What sets Kampai Japanese Steakhouse apart?
Kampai is the first Japanese restaurant in the Southern Tier and the oldest operating in Upstate New York. It was opened in Vestal NY in 1975 by Richard Matsushima from Himeji, Japan. One of the key things that set the restaurant apart is that it is Japanese-owned. It is founded on traditional Japanese culture and cooking techniques. Authentic sushi is their pride and they try to preserve the authentic way of doing things.
Another key highlight is their attention to detail. “Ichi-go ichi-e” is a Japanese saying that means “one time, one meeting.” It embodies the cultural concept of treasuring the unrepeatable nature of a moment. From this vantage point, Kampai is committed to making sure that every piece of sushi that leaves their restaurant is the absolute best that it can possibly be. It means sourcing the freshest fish possible and making sure that it’s prepared to perfection. The rice must be the perfect texture, flavor, and temperature. Not too hot, not too cold. In this way, the warm rice mixes perfectly in your mouth with the fresh, cold sashimi.
